My Very First Book of Shapes by Eric Carle
This is a wonderful split-page wordless board book that teaches children the simple concept of shapes through Eric Carle's inimitable collage illustrations. Readers need to line up the shape in the top section of the book with the same shaped image in the bottom section, which enforces the MA Math Framework of matching. This book will be very fun for your little learners as they explore shapes! They may not get the correct matches at first but they will enjoy the colors and pictures and become interested in shapes. The split-page matching is important as it exposes your children to how shapes look similar and different from other shapes. The more they are exposed to the pictures in the book the more likely they are to match them correctly! Since there are no words or dialogue children can, when they are able, independently explore this book. |
Skippyjon Jones: Shape Up by Judy Schachner This board book has minimal text, bright pictures and lots of shapes! Since it is a board book it is easy for your child to hold and will not succumb to wear and tear. The book follows Skippyjon Jones, a favorite for many children, as he dances, skips and flies around many different shapes. This book will help our learners gain a better understanding about prepositions and shapes as stated in the MA Math Frameworks. This is a perfect bedtime story to get your child starting to think about shapes. There are also many activities that can be done alongside this piece of literature. *All images were found on Google Image Search Engine |
